Saturday February 21st, 2009. Beeston Weirfields, Notts.
Team: Rhys, Sheldon Miller, Joe Lewis, Dave Smith, Rocky Bennett-Bull, Micky Evans, Liam Hill, Andy Creswell, Chris Fish, Nick Evans, Mark Middleton. Subs: Steve Burton, Josh Slade (used) and Dave Grantham.
The 5-1 score line tells of a damning defeat but it was very much a game of two halves, with Wollaton edging the first half after taking a 1-0 lead through Nick Evans.
Southwell managed to get an excellent equaliser through their potent left winger to make it 1-1 at half time.
We performed well up until about the hour mark at which point we committed some silly mistakes in our final third and handed victory to Southwell on a silver platter, gifting them three goals in the space of 15 minutes and left ourselves with an impossible mountain to climb.
Left: Nick Evans makes it 1-0 to Wollaton with a header at the far post.
equaliser.

Below Left: Micky has a glorious opportunity to lob the keeper after a defensive mix up by Southwell leaves the goal at his mercy but the effort falls short, lacking just enough pace on the ball.
Below Left: At 2-1 down Wollaton had a great chance when a good through ball left the
Southwell defence flat footed ball and found Cressy one-on-one with their keeper but, once again, with the goal at our mercy we couldn't hit the onion bag.

Left: Smithy launches a throw in goal bound.Bottom: 'The loneliness of the long distance wing back'... this picture sums up the feeling of chucking away a cup semi-final.
Cressy cuts a dejected, lone figure in the final minutes after putting in a hardworking shift over 90 minutes, reflecting on what might have been if, as a team, we had been a bit more resourceful in possession.

The last 45 minutes was our worst second half performance all season. To compound matters, when we finally trudged back into the dressing room we had to absorb the news that Forest had lost 3-1 at home to Derby. Another bitter pill to swallow.
Full focus on the league now boys. We'll have to make sure we give Southwell much more of a game over 90 minutes when we play them on March 14th.
We're away this Saturday (Feb 28th) to Pinxton, a massive relegation battle six pointer. We'll have to resign this defeat to the dustbin of history and pick ourselves up. Dig in......onwards and upwards, Gents...
